Packaging systems

Plan the SKU family before the files multiply.

The useful test for a packaging system is not whether one hero pack looks resolved. It is whether customers and internal teams can understand the whole family when formats, flavours and launch channels begin to expand.

Based on Ashbi’s packaging, ecommerce and launch-planning process. It is not a client case study or regulatory guidance.

Use this before a project handoff or launch review

  1. 01

    Name the family structure

Separate the pieces that should stay fixed from the pieces that must change: masterbrand, product line, product name, variant, format, size and any required claims.

  2. 02

    Rank the information

Decide what must be noticed first, understood second and found only when needed. The hierarchy should be tested across the actual product list, not a placeholder range.

  3. 03

    Create variant logic

Choose a limited, repeatable way to distinguish flavours, functions or sizes. Colour, photography, type and illustration should each have a clear job instead of competing for attention.

  4. 04

    Account for real formats

Bring the supplied dielines, dimensions and panel constraints into the design conversation early. A system that only works on one format is not ready to extend.

  5. 05

    Prepare change control

Keep an approved copy source, SKU tracker and artwork log so additions do not silently change the system or reintroduce outdated information.

Scope boundary

Know who approves what.

Ashbi can organize the design system and artwork handoff. Product claims, technical production and regulatory decisions require the appropriate client and specialist approvals.
